Why I created this

Meet Kelsey

Pediatric Occupational Therapist · Founder, Growing Balanced

I'm Kelsey — a pediatric OT and mom. I built Growing Balanced because so many of the families I worked with kept saying the same thing: "This is helpful, but I need it in a way I can actually use on a Tuesday morning."

So that's what this is. Practical, evidence-informed OT strategies packaged for real parenting — not textbooks, not lectures. My hope is that every guide, every article, and every tool here leaves you feeling a little less overwhelmed, and a little more confident.

Frequently asked

Questions parents ask before downloading

Everything you might want to know before entering your email.

Why is my child potty trained but still doesn't know when they need to go?

Many children have difficulty recognizing internal body signals (interoception). This is a skill that can be taught over time.

How long should I remind my child to use the bathroom?

Scheduled reminders help early on, but the goal is to gradually replace them with body-awareness questions and eventually independent initiation.

Does this work for children with ADHD or autism?

Yes — many strategies were designed specifically to support children with ADHD, autism, sensory processing differences, and executive functioning challenges.

Should I use rewards?

Yes — when rewards focus on noticing body signals and trying, rather than only successful toileting.

When should I seek professional help?

If accidents continue despite consistent practice, or your child experiences pain, withholding, constipation, or significant difficulty recognizing body signals, consult your pediatrician or an occupational therapist.
