Common questions

Everything parents ask about the toolbox

What's actually inside the Parent Toolbox?

The toolbox includes 12+ quick-support tools (What-to-Try, Sensory Detective, Feelings Detective, Homework Helper, Focus Environment Scanner, and more), 180+ curated OT-informed activities across sensory, emotional, focus, and play, plus parent education pages, co-regulation scripts, calm-corner blueprints, and the Support Board — a personalized dashboard of your child's most useful supports.

How do I know which activity or strategy to use?

The Support Board and What-to-Try tool recommend activities based on your child's current struggle, sensory profile, and past favorites. You can also browse full libraries by area (sensory, emotional, focus, play), filter by age, materials, time needed, or setting, and save your favorites for future use.

Can I use the toolbox without a full schedule set up?

Yes. Every tool works on its own. You can pull up a co-regulation script mid-meltdown, print a feelings chart before dinner, or search a sensory activity while at the park. The schedule and toolbox complement each other but neither is required for the other to be useful.

Are the activities suitable for kids of all ages?

Activities are tagged by age band (0–2, 3–5, 6–8, 9+) and by ability level so you can filter for exactly the right fit. Many activities include scaffolding notes — how to simplify for younger kids or extend for older ones.

Can I use the toolbox in the classroom or as a therapist?

Yes. Teachers and OTs use Growing Balanced with families and small groups. You can share individual activities or entire routines with parents, and every strategy is designed to be doable in real settings — not just clinics.
