Visual schedule
Many kids who struggle to start homework can finish ONE thing — they just can't see the path. A tactile, removable checklist makes each step its own win.
What you'll need
- A small cookie sheet or piece of cardboard
- Sticky-back velcro dots
- Index cards or cardstock
- Markers
How to make it
- Cut 5-8 card strips, one per recurring task (math, reading, snack, brain break).
- Add a velcro dot to the back of each card and rows of dots on the board.
- Each day, place the cards in order on the board.
- As your child finishes a task they pull the card off — physically — and put it in a 'done' bucket.
- Reset for tomorrow together.
Tips & variations
- Always include a 5-minute brain break card between tougher tasks.
- Let your child put the cards in their own order — order builds buy-in.
- Use a star sticker on the back of each card for an extra reward.
Why it helps
The physical action of removing a card gives the brain a clear 'done!' signal. The visible card stack shrinking is concrete proof of progress.
